Common questions
How many words is a one-minute script?
About 130 words at a conversational pace. Nearer 100 if you are speaking formally or to a large room, and up to 160 or so for an energetic read to camera.
How long does a 500-word script take to read?
Just under four minutes at 130 words per minute. A 1,000-word script runs about seven and a half minutes, and 2,000 words is a little over fifteen.
Why is my real delivery slower than the estimate?
Because the estimate counts words, not pauses. Add roughly ten per cent for a script with a lot of punctuation, slides to change, or questions you expect to be interrupted by.
Does this upload my script?
No. The counting happens in this page, and nothing is sent anywhere.
