About LensCue

LensCue is a free teleprompter that runs in your browser. Paste a script, pick a speed, press play, and read. There is nothing to download, no account to make, and no trial that ends.

It is built for anyone who has to say words to a camera and would rather not memorise them — people making videos, recording a course, rehearsing a speech, or presenting to a room.

What it does

What it does not do

It does not use your camera, record video, or ask for your microphone. It is a script on a screen. Point it near your lens and record with whatever you already shoot on. Keeping it to one job is why there are four controls instead of twenty.

Free

All of it, with no account, no watermark and nothing held back for a paid tier. There is nothing to buy on this site. If it saves you a take, tell someone about it — that is the only thing being asked.

Your script

Nothing you type is sent anywhere. The page is static, there is no server behind it to receive a script, and what you write is saved in your own browser so it survives a refresh. Clearing this site's data erases it, and we never had a copy. Theprivacy page is the longer version.

Start from a script

Each of these opens the prompter with a template already loaded:

There is also a script timer, for working out how long something takes to read aloud before you record it.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes — the whole teleprompter, with no signup, no trial and no watermark. There is nothing to buy on this site.

Does my script get uploaded anywhere?

No. The page is static and there is no server to send it to. Your script and settings are saved in your own browser's local storage, which means they survive a refresh and never leave your machine. Clearing site data erases them.

Does it use my camera or record video?

No. It never asks for your camera or your microphone — it is a script on a screen and nothing else. Put it behind or beside your lens and record with whatever you already shoot on.

What speed should I use?

Conversational speech is around 130 words per minute; a measured, formal delivery is nearer 100, and an energetic read can pass 160. Start at 130, then nudge it with the arrow keys while you read — the scroll follows immediately.

Does it work with a teleprompter rig?

Yes. Turn on mirroring for beam-splitter glass. Both horizontal and vertical flips are there, because rigs differ in which one they need.

Can I use a remote control?

Any Bluetooth presenter clicker that sends page-up, page-down, space or the arrow keys will drive it, because those are the same keys the prompter listens for.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, the prompter itself needs no network. It is not installable as an offline app yet.

Is there a phone app?

Not yet. One is being built — the same prompter, designed for a phone at eye level, where it can scroll the script over the camera and record the take in one go. This tool is free and stays free either way.
